[tech] UCC Emails not delivering to @guild.uwa.edu.au addresses

Hi Kelvin,

In the two minutes after sending the last email, we noticed what the problem appears to be.
UWA's internal DNS has no MX records for guild.uwa.edu.au. It only has the A records, so it never gets to Guild's email servers (which seems to be served correctly outside of UWA).
I will include this in my ticket to Uni IT, but if you can also mention this that would be great.

Good afternoon Kelvin,

At the moment (and for the last 9 months) we have not been able to send emails to Guild emails.
During the last few months, when I was attempting to send semester grant applications to the SOC Treasurer, they would not receive them and I would have to send them from my personal email addresses.
If we try to email tenancy, the emails don't go through (irritating when sending in the clubroom usage statement for the Cameron Hall talks with the University earlier this year).
We had an open ticket with Uni IT for a while but we thought it was an issue on our side. At this point we do not believe it is an issue with our setup.

I've since gone through our mail logs and have found that when sending to guild address, our mail server (mailfish.ucc.asn.au - 130.95.13.19) times out when attempting to connect with guild.uwa.edu.au (104.26.0.36 AND 104.26.1.36).
>From the looks of this we may be IP banned for some reason? I don't understand why this would be.
Please advise us on any steps we can take to assist you with solving this. Also please include tech at ucc.asn.au as a CC in these, it's our mailing list.
