mooneye's been down today - thanks Grahame for the heads-up. It was
sitting at a fsck prompt, so I manually fsck'ed it and it came up OK -
only two files in /lost+found, but they didn't seem important.

I've added FSCKFIX=yes to /etc/default/rcS ...
